Curiosities
about hammocks: | The
first nominal quotation in Portuguese about hammocks occurred on the 27th of April
1500 by the notary of the portuguese fleet, Pedro Vaz de Caminha, when Brazil
was discovered by Portugal . As his reports tell, the Indians used to sleep in
hammocks that were high and tied on the extremities. According to the registers
collected until today, the hammock's copyright belongs to South America. The
name “hammock” was given by the portuguese people. The Indians used to call it
“ini”. “The bed make us take its habit and dispose ourselves
on it looking for rest in a sequence of different positions. The hammock takes
our form, gets contaminated with our customs, repeats, sweet and tender, the shape
of our body. The bed is hard, a definitive stop. The hammock is welcoming, comprehensive,
wavy, tepidly and softly coming along with the caprices of our fatigue and with
the news of our calmness. It moves, continually renovated, according to what tiredness
asks. The hammock helps the movement of dreams. Between it and the bed there is
the same distance as from solidarity to resignation”. Adapted
